Discerning Pallet

Finally!  Found something Leyton won't eat.  Believe it or not, this was left on his plate after dinner tonight. Chicken fried rice.  I was starting to think he didn't have any taste-buds

Hmmm...  Maybe his tapeworm doesn't like it...

Griffin is 4!

Grif turned 4 last Tuesday.  He got a pretty sweet shirt to wear and Chick-Fil-A for dinner!

Leyton was there too!

 Super Griffin!

Nice Grandma & Grandpa, and Monster Grandma and Grandpa came over Sunday for a little party.

Grif waiting patiently to open presents.

Yes!!!!!!

Amazing!

Ice cream cake from DQ!

Super Excited!

Waiting again.....

Those DQ cakes are tougher than tempered steel!  I split our knife in half trying to cut the darn thing.  For future reference, run a butter knife under hot water, or bust out the chain saw!

Strange Conversations

At Dinner
Grif: I can just swallow my chicken whole.
Me: No. You have to chew it or you could choke.
Grif: okay, but it takes so long to chew. We could be here for a long time.

Grif: My butt itches.
Steph: Where? On the outside?
Grif: No. Where the poop comes out.

Me: Grif, go get your shoes on and get ready for church.
Grif:
Really? Fireman hat, shades, and American Flags?? At least he put on the Rosary....

At the Cheeto Place:
Grid: Dad, can I have one of your chips?
Me: Sure. (they were jalapeƱo)
Grif: oh, oh, hot hot hot. (Takes a big drink of tea) Wow, that was spicy.

At bedtime. He was coughing a lot.
Steph: here, take some cough syrup.
Grid: really? Syrup? (grin of disbelief)
Apparently we've never called it anything but "cough medicine".

Preschool Orientation

Grif was super excited for Preschool to start. He went running into the building shouting, "School! School! School!"

Steph went to the parent meeting Friday.
Waiting in the foyer:
Grif:  Hi Christopher!
Steph (to "Christopher's" Parents): Is this Christopher?  Griffin talks about him all the time.
"Christopher's" Parents:  This isn't Christopher.
Apparently Griffin got confused.

Here are some pictures from his actual first day of school.

Zoo

Pictures from our recent Zoo visit
Griffin with his look-a-like Bobo.

Leyton and Mommy in the Lorikeet pen.

Griffin feeding a Lorikeet

Chillin with the kangaroos

Leyton is a little bored.

Griffin is not!

Grif petting a milk snake.

Ordinarily, Steph would not pet the snake, but she couldn't let her four year old show her up.

Tapeworm

I think my youngest has a tapeworm. For dinner tonight, he had:

An entire bratwurst
1/4 of a bun
1/2 an ear of corn
1 cup of green beans
A fruit cup

And if that wasn't enough, after we removed him from the table, he went for the dog's food.

A Day in the Life of a Stay At Home Dad

Steph started school back to school today for in-service. Both boys have been sick this week and we've already been to the doc twice. Grif thru up popcorn in the tub Sunday night after we got home from the Reds game and has been under the weather since. Leyton was burning up Wednesday morning and spent the day motionless on mom's lap. The boys were still sick Wednesday night, so I got saddled with staying home with them today.

??:?? - Steph got up for school at who knows what time. Hee hee :)

7:15 - Leyton started moving around and, as I was getting him up and changed, I heard. "mommy! I'm ready to wake up!" from the other room.

7:45 - I got Grif up and parked him in front of the TV(it's a great babysitter. Very dependable) and made a bottle for Leyton. With both kids occupied I took the opportunity to get a shower.

8:00 - Breakfast. Chocolate chex for Griffin and cheerios for Leyton. Raisin bran crunch for dad. Grif ate about half a bowl and asked to be excused because his tummy hurt. I think it had more to do with pausing the "babysitter" in the middle of Handy Manny.

8:30 - changed the kids out of their jammies and into their clothes. Then emptied the dishwasher and refilled. Leyton helped:

9:00 - Put Leyton down for his morning nap. Carried the tubs of kids clothes that they have out grown to the basement and replaced the furnace filter.

9:30 - Cleaned up and swept the main floor.

10:00 - Leyton up from his nap. Got the boys together, car seats in the car, and headed to the doc for Grif's 4 year checkup. (third visit this week!)

11:00 - Griffin's 4 year checkup. When the nurse called us back, I looked at Griffin and said, "Time for SHOTS!". He gave me an unsure grin, but the nurse and receptionist thought it was pretty funny. No shots on this visit by the way. He's 42.5" tall (90%) and weighs 38#6oz (68%) and is in great health.

12:00 - Picked up lunch from the Cheeto Place (Jersey Mike's - see earlier post for an explanation) and went to Steph's school to have lunch with her on her in-service day. The Cheeto place didn't have any Cheetos! What is up with that. Grif was not pleased.

1:30 - Home from lunch and put both boys down for a nap.

2:00 - Working from home. I think if I was truly a stay at home dad, I would have done laundry or prepped for dinner, or something.... Maybe even a siesta during this time :) - but I'm not, so work beckons....

3:30 - Both kids woke up at the same time and we had a snack. Leyton had a fresh peach from the Granville farmers market (I think these are the best peaches I have ever had). Grif had some cheese and crackers. I swept the upstairs while they were snacking.

4:30 - Played in their play room. Grif played on his VTech laptop and drove his garbage truck around. Leyton played with his shapes helicopter, gum ball machine, and chased Grif around. Then we played hide and seek. Griffin hid while Leyton and I searched for him. Then they played fetch:

5:15 - Started getting dinner ready. Fish sticks, corn, and sweet potato fries for the boys. Leftover stuffed pork tenderloin for me. Leyton pounded the corn and sweet potato fries, but not so interested in the fish sticks. Griffin was just the opposite.

5:45 - Cleaned up dinner and relaxed with the boys.

6:30 - Leyton was getting really cranky, so BATH TIME! Gave him his pre bed bottle, some Tylenol (he bit his tongue pretty good the other day and is teething) and his antibiotic for his sinus infection. He was down and out by 6:45

6:45 - Bath time for G-man. Bath, potty, brushed his teeth, read a story, normal bedtime routine. 7:15 is a little early for him to go to bed, so I let him watch TV for a half hour or so before tucking him in.

7:45 - Me back to work. A little bit of estimating before Steph got home.

8:30 - Steph got home from school. In addition to inservice, they had orientation tonight. A heck of a long first day back.

9:00 - Packing ups stuff for the boys first day at the sitter.

That about wraps up my day. A little taste of what it would be like to be a stay at home or single parent. I think I'd be good at the stay at home dad thing, but certainly don't want to be a single parent. I'm looking forward to getting back to work tomorrow, but it's because of responsibilities and unfinished tasks looming, and not to get away from the kids or domestic responsibilities.
