Biker Dude

Griffin has had a bike with training wheels for some time now, but we haven't been riding it too much.  He has preferred to ride his big wheel and I haven't pushed him too much.

A couple of weeks ago, we bought a bike at a garage sale for $5 and I removed the pedals, modified the seat and made a glide bike out of it.  A glide (or balance) bike doesn't have pedals and is intended to teach the kids to balance on a two wheel bike before introducing pedaling, etc.  Their feet stay close to the ground, so they can scoot themselves along and if they need a correction (falling over, etc) they just push off with their foot and don't crash.  Griffin picked it up in a couple of minutes.

Yesterday, we decided to take the kids for a walk and I asked Griffin if he'd like me to take the training wheel off his bike so he could ride it on our walk.  He nervously said yes.  Here are the results:

Very first attempt without training wheels:

I'm a believer in the glide bike!
